Ashtray Full of Ashes

A child's laughter leaks through the walls,
like a confession slipping out,
the bus window frames my view,
as if I'm looking at a world I once knew.

An ashtray rests heavy with forgotten smoke,
each flake a memory burnt away,
I watch, detached, from my moving seat,
accepting loss without reason or delay.
